The Sampson County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) is the latest law enforcement agency in North Carolina to embrace cutting-edge body-worn camera and patrol car camera technology. With the launch of 76 new LensLock Eagle 13 body-worn cameras and Hawk 6 camera systems for over 80 patrol cars, SCSO is setting a new standard for public safety. Each patrol vehicle is equipped with four in-car cameras: two forward-facing, one for the backseat, and one facing the rear of the vehicle.

Integrated Law Enforcement Cameras with Automatic Activation for Focused Policing.

Automatic activation of both body-worn and patrol vehicle cameras is triggered by pre-determined events, such as lights and sirens, vehicle door, speed, collision, and more. LensLock Eagle 13 body-worn cameras can also start recording automatically when a gunshot is detected or if an officer falls to the ground. These features ensure that SCSO deputies stay focused on critical tasks without worrying about manually starting recordings.

The newly acquired body cameras can also operate independently from the in-car system. SCSO Deputies can manually activate the Eagle 13 body-worn cameras or the Hawk 6 in-car system when necessary, providing flexibility and reliability in various situations.

Peace of Mind for SCSCO Deputies with Focus on Trust and Transparency.

When interviewed by CBS17, Sampson County deputies shared their positive experiences, emphasizing the peace of mind LensLock body-worn and patrol vehicle cameras provide. Deputy Joseph Rusk highlighted the benefit of having a reliable record to review during critical incidents, while Lt. Donald Carter praised the added protection and transparency the LensLock cameras bring.

Sheriff Jimmy Thornton echoed these sentiments, noting the increased accountability and credibility for the department. “I have nothing to worry about,” Sheriff Thornton said. “I think the people deserve to know and see.“

This level of transparency and accountability helps strengthen trust and boost community support efforts.

Secure and Efficient Evidence Management.

Footage from LensLock cameras is securely uploaded to the LensLocker™ Digital Evidence Management Service (DEMS), powered by Microsoft Azure for US Government cloud storage. SCSO can tag evidentiary data with vital metadata to ensure incident details are accurately captured and tied to the digital evidence. Sharing this data is secure and straightforward, enabling the SCSO to efficiently share recorded evidence with the District Attorney’s office, courts, public defenders, media, and other relevant parties.

Summary of SCSO's Benefits After Switching to LensLock's Body-Worn and Patrol Car Camera Technology:

  1. Enhanced Safety and Accountability: Automatic activation and reliable recording ensure that deputies can focus on their tasks, enhancing both safety and accountability.

  2. Improved Transparency and Credibility: Body-worn and in-car cameras provide an additional layer of transparency and credibility for the Sheriff’s Office.

  3. Peace of Mind for Law Enforcement Officers: Sampson County Sheriff's Office Deputies appreciate the ability to review footage to accurately recall events, reducing human error in critical situations.
